COASTAL PLAN INCLUDES SEAFRONT PROMENADE AND CYCLEWAY

The S2S campaign has achieved its first major boost with the formal adoption by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council of the Coastal Plan on 10th June 2002. The plan has been altered in a number of ways from the original draft. Most significantly for the S2S campaign, it now contains the objective of creating a seafront promenade and cycleway from the county boundary at Booterstown to Sandycove. This is the first time that the idea of creating a continuous seafront promenade and cycleway has been included in any Local Authority plan for Dublin Bay. It will hopefully lead to the inclusion of the proposal in the development plans of the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and also the Dublin City Council, both of which will be reviewed in the near future.
 
From the large numbers of messages of support and encouragement we have received, it is clear that many people will share our gratitude to the Council for having taken this step to create what a growing number of people believe will become the most important amenity for the citizens and visitors to Dublin.
